The Guild at Liberton Kirk was formed during 1911 following a presentation by a delegate from the Church of Scotland Woman's Guild (which formed in 1887). The first formal meeting of the Guild here at Liberton Kirk was held in the Anderson Hall on 23rd October 1911 with an attendance of about seventy. The first secretary was Miss EA Kesting, a relative of Rt Rev Sheilagh Kesting, moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland during 2007.

Its purpose was to strengthen bonds between the ladies of the congregation so that they might be helpful to each other and to the church.
Times move on and the Guild today is open to both women and men.

Meetings are held at 2.15pm on the second Wednesday of each month and at 7.30pm on the first and third Mondays from October to April. These are interspersed with a liberal collection of outings, coffee mornings and other social events.
